Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki will address the European Parliament next week on a controversial ruling from Poland's Constitutional Court that questions the primacy of EU law, officials said on Wednesday.
Morawiecki asked European Parliament speaker David Sassoli "to present Poland's position" in a debate on the ruling, Polish government spokesman Piotr Muller said on Twitter.
A spokesperson for Sassoli told AFP that Morawiecki would take part in the session on October 19 at 9:00am (0700 GMT).
Tensions between Warsaw and Brussels have risen over the past week following the court ruling in a case brought by the right-wing populist government of Poland's Law and Justice (PiS) party.
The ruling states that parts of the EU treaties are "incompatible" with the Polish constitution.
It has been widely criticised by the European Commission and several member states, including France and Germany.
Tens of thousands of people rallied across Poland on Sunday after experts said the ruling could be a first step towards Poland leaving the EU.
Morawiecki has said he wants Poland to stay in the bloc.
The EU Court of Justice has ruled against Poland several times over its controversial judicial reforms, warning that they undermine judicial independence.
Poland has accused the EU of interfering in its internal affairs.
The European Parliament is pressing the Commission to make use of new powers to withhold EU payouts if bloc norms on corruption and the independence of courts are endangered.
Poland and Hungary are taking legal action in the EU's top court against the mechanism.
